8 ways to extend the life of your roof
(Text appearing over a series of video clips, such as a person cutting tree branches, a man clearing snow from his roof, specialists inspecting a roof, and snow-covered roofs in a neighbourhood.)
1. Trim any branches that could come into contact with your roof.
2. Remove anything that could block normal runoff (rain or melting snow).
3. Don’t leave any debris on the roof or in the gutters.
4. Inspect the roof and attic space in the spring or fall.
5. If a major weather event leaves you wondering about the state of your roof, have it inspected.
6. If you see blackish-brown algae spots on your roof, do a deep clean.
7. Use plastic tools with dull edges to get snow and ice off the roof. Leave a base layer of snow to protect your roofing.
8. For fast de-icing, pour hot water down the roof to create drainage channels.
