How to change windshield wipers

(The camera moves from the ceiling of a garage to a display of Michelin wiper blades. We then hear the voice of Jesse Caron, CAA-Quebec Automotive Expert.)

One maintenance job that’s easy for any driver is replacing the wiper blades. You’ll find blades at auto parts dealers,

… tire retailers and big-box stores.

(Change of shot, and we’re shown a leaflet listing wiper blade types by vehicle make.)

In the store, there’s always a guide you can check to find the right size of blades for your vehicle.

(Back to the display of wiper blades in a slow left-to-right motion.)

It’s a good idea to change blades once or twice a year based on their condition. There are all-season and winter blades, but the best performing are the flexible flat-blade models that appeared a few years ago.

(The image changes to show wiper blades in motion on the windshield of a black vehicle. Windshield washer jet and wiper blades moving back and forth.)

They offer the best windshield adherence, and they don’t freeze up as much in winter.

(Change of shot. We now see Jesse’s hand grabbing the arm of the windshield wiper to install the blade. A blue box appears in the right corner of the screen, with the following warning: Take care not to let the wiper arm fall onto the windshield. And so Jesse carefully puts it back.)

The installation process is normally quite simple.

(Camera zooms out to show Jesse completing his move.)

Simply lift the wiper arm and attach the new blade. Go easy so that you don’t damage the glass. And don’t wait too long before changing, otherwise you could wind up with a scratched windshield.

Here’s a good tip: think about replacing the blades in the fall, at the same time as you change your tire. That way, you’ll be all set for safe winter driving.
