7 tips for a successful move

1. Set a date for your move
Avoid peak moving periods and holidays, as it may be more expensive and difficult to find a mover.
2. Choose a reliable mover
Choose a mover who is a member of Commission des Transports du Québec and is insured against damage and loss.
3. Ask them to confirm the price
To get a realistic assessment, provide as much information as possible: moving distance, number of floors, outsize furniture, doors to remove, etc.
4. Clean your home thoroughly
Make a list of your belongings and sell or give away anything you don’t want to take with you.
5. Send out change of address notices
Government services, suppliers, employers, financial institutions, subscriptions, etc.
6. Pack up your belongings
Mark on the boxes the rooms where they should be put. That will make it easier for both you and the movers.
7. On moving day:
• Note down the numbers on your electricity and gas meters
• Inspect your furniture before signing the bill
• Wait a few hours before plugging in your appliances
