An autumn in action for the CAA-Quebec Foundation

Published on September 2, 2022

Educating all road users about road safety is one of the Foundation’s core missions. For almost 15 years now, we’ve been teaching road safety best practices throughout Quebec to primary and secondary school students as well as older adults. The next few months will also be very busy and full of new developments for our team.

Here’s a brief overview of our fall activity schedule:

  • September: Launch of the school drop-off patrol research project. The school drop-off patrol pilot project began in 2019 at Springdale Elementary in Dollard-des-Ormeaux and in 2021 at École Anne-Hébert in Quebec City. With help from partners like the Road Safety Fund, which is providing nearly $80,000 in support, it’s time to launch in-depth field research to assess the effectiveness of this new form of school safety patrol and measure its real impact on young people’s safety around schools. This will be the final step in deciding whether this type of patrol will potentially be added to all schools in the province.
  • October: Official event to present the first donation of an infant car seat to a community organization in the Quebec City area. This project, the result of a collaboration with Centraide Québec et Chaudière-Appalaches and Evenflo Canada, will help provide nearly 150 infant car seats to organizations that will distribute them to families in need.
  • October: Speed limit monitoring in school zones. Our observers will analyze vehicle speeds near two schools in Quebec City and Montreal to see if there are any improvements. The results of our observations will be made public.

In addition to these events, the Foundation will resume its activities in primary and secondary schools throughout Quebec, with its school safety patrol and the Not My Ride program, among others.
