News from the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents: What to do if you’re a customer of CAA-Quebec Travel

Published on July 6, 2021

The Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents (CFCTA) recently announced that, starting in September, it will compensate travellers who booked with travel agencies licensed by Quebec’s consumer protection bureau and have yet to be reimbursed.

CAA-Quebec Travel is delighted with this long-awaited news. Many people have called us to find out how to obtain compensation.

Our teams are working closely with the relevant authorities to gather all the information you need to file your claim as quickly as possible.

Like many others in the travel industry, we are still waiting for more details from Quebec’s consumer protection bureau, which oversees the CFCTA. This information will allow us to confirm the claims process and serve you better.

If you have already filed a claim with the CFCTA, no further action is required on your part, unless you are contacted by the claims administrator, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

If you have yet to file a claim, CAA-Quebec Travel recommends gathering the following documents* to speed up the process:

  • Original invoice and receipt issued by CAA-Quebec.
  • Proof of payment for travel services (airline tickets, hotel rooms, cruises, etc.). This may consist of a copy of the front and back of a cashed cheque, credit or debit card receipts, credit card account statements, and more.
  • Any tickets or passes you may have purchased.
  • Any other documents you deem relevant, such as copies of emails.

*If you are unable to locate any of these documents, one of our travel counsellors will be happy to help.

CAA-Quebec is available to answer your questions at any time.
