When CAA-Quebec patrollers towed the Formula 1

Published on July 4, 2022

CAA-Quebec had the privilege of providing official towing services for the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 in Montreal June 17 to June 19. On location were 22 CAA-Quebec patrollers and 11 tow trucks standing by to help out the world’s finest racecar drivers.

The patrollers spent the three race days divided into teams of two and positioned strategically by the track, ready to spring into action at any moment no matter what—accidents, fender benders, running off the road, mechanical breakdowns, or anything else.

A dream weekend for CAA-Quebec patrollers

The patrollers on the job all agreed that it was a fantastic experience they won’t soon forget. Not only did they get trackside seats for the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1, they were proudly part of the action.

“It was fantastic,” said one patroller. “It was an amazing three days. I actually got to tow a Ferrari—I’d never even touched one before. It was a dream come true.” “My coworkers and I were proud as peacocks,” said another, “We couldn’t stop smiling for three days straight. It was just great to see.”

A triumphant (and tasty) collaboration

CAA-Quebec’s work at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 went off without a hitch—but not without a few small surprises. Assistant director of roadside assistance Dany Gobeil and Montreal patrol supervisor Alexandre Morin, for example, told of answering a call from a sushi delivery vehicle needing a boost. The driver was so impressed by it all he came back minutes later with free sushi for all the patrollers. Nothing like a delicious sushi dinner to cap off a long day working at the track!

CAA-Quebec is there when it counts, even if you happen to be one of the world’s top racecar drivers.
