Citizens call out the Worst Roads in Quebec

Published on May 23, 2024

Route 329 in Saint-Adophe-d’Howard in the Laurentians took first place the traditional ranking of the Worst Roads in Quebec. For the ninth year running, CAA-Quebec asked road users to highlight the persistent challenges they face.

Despite the fun aspect of the consultation, many roads have been repaired over the course of the campaigns, a sign that citizens’ voices have been heard. In second and third place respectively are Chemin du Contour-du-Lac-à-Beauce in La Tuque and Chemin Pink in Gatineau.

“At a time when mobility funding is generating heated debate in the public arena, it’s imperative that the government guarantee safe and efficient infrastructure for all users.”

- Sophie Gagnon, Vice President, Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility

The selection process is entirely participatory, reflecting the experiences and frustrations of thousands of road users every day. Quebecers pay a significant amount of taxes to maintain the road network, and Quebec, compared to the other provinces, is where road conditions cost vehicle owners the most. Despite the high costs, barely one in two roads gets a passing grade.

Methodology

The ninth annual CAA-Quebec Worst Roads campaign ran from April 2 to April 23, 2024. Any road user (motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, truckers) could vote for the worst road in the province on the worstroads.com website. One vote per road per day per user was allowed. A total of 4,465 votes were tallied to determine the final ranking for the Worst Roads of 2024.
