Don’t let insurance drive you wild: Fun videos to answer your questions

Published on May 11, 2022

Car insurance can be complicated. You could even say it’s been known to drive vehicle owners round the bend. To straighten things out, CAA-Quebec got together with GAA (Groupement des assureurs automobiles) on a series called Things to Know So Your Car Insurance Doesn’t Drive You Round the Bend.

With these short, entertaining videos, the two organizations answer the questions everyone’s asking about car insurance. GAA and CAA-Quebec set the record straight on a host of topics ranging from accident responsibility to claims records, primary drivers, letting someone borrow your car, and more.

“CAA-Quebec has always striven to make the concepts underlying insurance as straightforward as possible and clearly explain coverage and technical terms. The videos are a delight. I’m very proud that we agreed to team up with GAA for this stellar campaign.”

 - Suzanne Michaud, Vice President, Insurance

Things to Know So Your Car Insurance Doesn’t Drive You Round the Bend starts off with eight 30-second videos in which GAA and CAA-Quebec explain some of the concepts involved with collisions and the use of a family vehicle.

“All too often,” says GAA head of public affairs Anne Morin, “people don’t find out what their car insurance policy covers until they make a claim—after an accident has already happened. This project gives us a chance to get everyone up to speed, starting with CAA-Quebec members, about how insurance works in Quebec before they’re involved in an accident.

The videos provide clear and concise answers to questions such as:

  • Do you have to pay the deductible when you file a claim because of a collision?
  • Who decides who’s liable for a collision?
  • Who pays for the damage when an accident isn’t the insured’s fault?
  • Does an accident appear on a driver’s record if they’re not at fault?
  • Do you have to tell your insurer if your teen borrows your car sometimes?
  • In a one-car couple, who should be designated as the primary driver?
  • You give your car to your kid. What do you do about the insurance?
  • Do you have to tell your insurer if your teen sometimes drives their grandparents’ car?
