Gatineau road voted worst in Quebec
Over the last month, Quebecers have spoken loud and clear: Boulevard de la Gappe in Gatineau has been named the worst road in the province for 2022. Route du Vieux-Moulin in Saint-Isidore and Boulevard du Curé-Labelle (Route 117) in Saint-Jérôme were close runners-up.
The seventh edition of the Worst Roads campaign was a great success, with nearly 8,500 votes cast. This high level of public participation sends a clear message to decision makers about the terrible state of the roads in Quebec, particularly those that made it to the top 10.

What’s next?
Now that the voting period is over, CAA-Quebec will be springing into action. In the coming weeks, we will contact the authorities responsible for the 10 roads that received the most votes from Quebecers, both to notify them of their ranking and to offer them the opportunity to share with us how they plan to improve these sections. We’ll also be following up a little later in the year to find out which roads have been repaired and what the game plan is for the others.
What to do about vehicle damage
Every year, the province’s crumbling roads damage many vehicles. Many motorists are left wondering what recourse they have with the authorities, and whether they should—or are required to—file a claim with their insurer.
“These questions come up year after year,” says Suzanne Michaud, Vice President, Insurance. “We recommend that you do not file a claim for less than $1,000, whether or not the damage is caused by poor road conditions. With the deductible to be paid and the higher premiums that follow, it won’t be worth your while.”
CAA-Quebec also notes that anyone who wants to sue for damage caused by a public road must prove that the responsible authority, for example, Quebec’s Ministère des Transports, a municipality, or a city, has been negligent or careless or is guilty of misconduct.
Methodology
Methodology: The seventh annual CAA-Quebec Worst Roads campaign ran from April 26 to May 26, 2022. Any road user (motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, truckers) could vote for the worst road in the province on the worstroads.com website. One vote per road per day was allowed. A total of 8,524 votes were recorded to determine the final ranking for the 2022 Worst Roads.
