On the winter road: Never go without your CAA-Quebec card!
“Wintertime winds blow cold to season”… CAA-Quebec’s Roadside Assistance team is always ready to help its members, however difficult the road conditions dictated by Mother Nature. Oh, and while we’re speaking of weather, we’ve been eagerly awaiting it: the first real snowfall in Quebec last week kicked off the 2024–2025 season.
Depleted batteries, stranded vehicles, out of gas, frozen doors… Winter is a challenging season for vehicles and it comes with its fair share of unexpected situations. Periods of extreme cold are CAA-Quebec’s busiest days of the year. To cope with the demand, our staffs in the field and at our contact centre are doubled, in some cases tripled, to ensure maximum responsiveness. Members can submit their service requests by telephone, on the website or on the CAA Mobile application.

“Winter is a critical season for motorists, both on the road and for their vehicles. Knowing that our members rely on us to ensure their safety, we are committed to constantly refining our processes in order to provide reliable service, even in the harshest conditions.”
- Pierre-Serge Labbé, Vice President, Mobility
Assistance in figures
Speaking of busy days, our patrollers were called upon more than usual during the December 5 snowstorm, with 2700 services rendered in just one day. Indeed, the sticky snow created the perfect conditions for getting stranded, a clear sign that winter is definitely here. Here’s the bigger picture of our assistance service.
- 38 minutes: The average response time, making CAA-Quebec one of the most efficient clubs in North America.
- 2300: The average number of services we perform daily during winter.
- 205,000: The number of services rendered from December 2023 to March 2024.
Better safe than sorry!
Here are a few tips to help keep your car from refusing to start or breaking down, or to avoid a mechanical breakdown that could mar your busy day.
- Battery: During the coldest weather, a vehicle’s battery loses around 75% of its capacity. Remember to have it tested and replaced if need be.
- Fuel: We recommend keeping the fuel tank at least half-full. This helps reduce the build-up of condensation, which can lead to freezing and clogging of the fuel line.
- Winter emergency kit: This essential kit should contain tools for clearing snow, traction plates, as well as blankets and food supplies to cope with an emergency situation. Store it in the trunk of your vehicle!
