Worst Roads 2022: 15 days left to vote!

Published on May 12, 2022

We’re midway through the campaign, and thousands of votes have already been cast for the 10 worst roads in the province. If this trend continues, every vote from Gatineau, Saint-Isidore, or Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval could make a difference between now and May 26, the final day for voting. Which road will take this unenviable title? Cast your vote at piresroutes.com!

Why vote? So that all road users, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and motorists can share a safe and efficient road system by lobbying decision makers about the importance of proper road maintenance.

“The Worst Roads ranking is a fabulous way for residents to draw their leaders’ attention to the poor and even dangerous conditions of certain roads throughout the province,” said Sophie Gagnon, Vice President, Public Affairs and Road Safety.

Remember that CAA-Quebec will send a report to the authorities responsible for the roads in our top 10. We’ll follow up a few months later to report back to the public on what’s been done to improve these dangerous roads.

Quebec has the worst roads in the country

Why do roads in Quebec seem to be in worse shape than in other provinces? Are we using the right materials to build our roads? What’s causing all that damage? Are we investing enough in the highway system in Quebec? CAA-Quebec spoke with two experts who weighed in on the questions that pop up every year with the arrival of spring.

Alan Carter, professor and head of the Pavement and Bituminous Materials Laboratory at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), and Guy Doré, full professor in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Université Laval, answered our questions about the highway system. The Ministère du Transport du Québec (MTQ) also commented on the experts’ responses and clarified a few points. Read their answers in full on our Worst Roads page.
